Fiberglass Insulation Benefits and Disadvantages

Benefits
  • Cheap oil based product
  • Easy to install
  • No specialized equipment
Disadvantages
  • Fiberglass has a good R-value when there is no air flow
  • R-value drops substantially when it's windy
  • Fits poorly around pipes and electrical conduits
  • Tends to compress overtime, reducing insulation benefits

Benefits
  • High R-value
  • Good insulator
  • Fits tightly around pipes and electrical conduits
Disadvantages
  • Undesirable environmental qualities, mainly the use of formaldehyde in bonding agents. This hazard is due to off-gassing
  • Costly to install due to the equipment needed
  • Not acceptable for attics as it can’t be walked on
  • Doesn't allow future access to repair electrical, plumbing, or A/C units in attic areas

Orkin’s Cellulose Insulation

Disadvantages:
  • Not having cellulose insulation is a disadvantage.

Orkin’s Method of Installation

  • We install baffles along inside of roof to prevent ice backups in winter
  • We install special heat-resistant materials around chimneys, recessed lights, and hot pipes to further reduce risk of fire
  • We blow the insulation in the attic with special equipment to reduce airborne dust particles
  • We clean up thoroughly when the job is done
